Meserve Named Next Ed Robson '50 Head Hockey Coach

NORTH BRIDGTON, ME – Bridgton Academy is excited to announce the appointment of Mike Meserve as the Ed Robson ”˜50 Head Hockey Coach.

Head of School Martin Mooney, said of Meserve’s selection, “We could not be more excited about Mike taking the helm of Bridgton’s hockey program. He has worked with our young men in many different venues here at the Academy, and his thorough understanding of our mission, coupled with his deep knowledge of the game of hockey, will serve our student-athletes incredibly well.”

Meserve, who played his college hockey for Norwich University, has been coaching at Bridgton since 2007. “Bridgton has given me so many opportunities to develop as a professional and to work with amazing young men and fantastic colleagues. For the past few years I’ve been focused on leading a program for the school that showcased Maine and the region through a variety of experiences. Now to have the chance to apply my leadership skills to our hockey program is very exciting, and the timing couldn’t be better. Wolverine Hockey has a great history, and as a history teacher myself the chance to build upon legacy is a humbling honor,” Meserve said.

For a number of younger alumni Meserve is an obvious choice, as evidenced by the number of letters of support and posts on social media when the opening was announced.

“The outreach and support has been a bit overwhelming, but it has let me know that we have made a difference in these young men’s lives. It feels good to know you have the support of so many alumni, now we just need to make sure we continue to put great young men out on the ice,” Meserve said.

Bridgton Athletic Director Aaron Izaryk said of Meserve, “Mike adds a wealth of institutional and program knowledge that every future class of Wolverine hockey players will benefit from. His passion for Bridgton hockey, as well as his connection with over a decade of alumni, will drive the program into its next era. We’ve seen Coach Meserve’s positive impact on our hockey program with his demonstrated investment in every one of the students he works with, and that gives us great confidence as he steps up to the top job.”
