Bridgton Academy is looking for a a qualified candidate to join our College Counseling team to help shape the future of young men. The College Counseling office works collaboratively with students and their families, as well as our athletic coaches and faculty. Bridgton Academy college counselors guide students through the initial college search process, all the way through applying and selecting a college. Additionally, s/he will play a key role in supporting his/her peers.
Bachelor’s degree and two years relevant experience
Excellent interpersonal and communication (both oral and written) skills are required, as is patience and empathy for adolescents and their often anxious families as they negotiate the postgraduate experience.
Expertise with all aspects of the college admissions/application process, knowledge of college and university profiles and programs, as well as athletic recruiting.
Familiarity with commonly used platforms such as the Common Application, Naviance, the College Board, and the NCAA Clearinghouse.
Experience working with international students and an understanding of the international admissions application/college search process.
A sense of humor, a keen attention to detail, flexibility, collegiality, and independent initiative are vital personal qualities in succeeding at this position.
Successful candidates will also demonstrate a commitment to engaging fully in the life of a boarding school.
REPORTS TO: Director of College Counseling
COLLABORATES WITH: Dean of Academics, College Counselors, Registrar, Athletic Director, and Athletic Coaches
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITY AND DUTIES:
Counsel and advise postgraduate students through all aspects of the college search and application process, including but not limited to the following: college fit, standardized testing, application completion, campus visits, matriculation decisions. Average student load ranges from 45-60 students annually.
Communicate appropriately with students, the Director of College Counseling, Dean of Academics, parents, coaches, advisors, classroom teachers and all others involved in the college search process.
Assist with standardized testing program, including test-day administration.
Provide assistance with annual college fair and meeting college representatives visiting the Bridgton Academy campus.
Visit college campuses and attend appropriate conferences and professional development opportunities representing the Academy.
