North Bridgton, ME – Bridgton Academy has named Matt Nutley as Head Lacrosse Coach.

After 12 years away from North Bridgton, Matt Nutley has returned as Head Lacrosse Coach at Bridgton Academy. Nutley led the Wolverines from 2001 to 2004, turning countless players into collegiate success stories and instilling values that his players still talk about today.

“We are extremely excited to welcome Matt Nutley back to Bridgton Academy,” says Bridgton Academy headmaster Grady Vigneau. “It is always rewarding to be able to see someone who has meant so much to the Academy return, as well as see the long-lasting effect Bridgton has on its faculty and staff, as well as its students. Coach Nutley has an intimate knowledge of this campus and what makes it tick. He knows how to make The Year That Makes The Difference successful for our young lacrosse players.”

“I am fired up to accept and return as the Head Lacrosse Coach at Bridgton Academy,” says Nutley. “Bridgton has no equal in delivering the complete package of lacrosse, academics and character-building in one year, and I am ready to lead a program that prepares players to make an impact at the next level at the appropriate College or University of their choice.”

Coach Nutley has over 20 years of lacrosse coaching experience, from founding and directing coaching camps and clinics nationwide, to directing large-scale youth programs throughout Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic, to college coaching, and coaching at the international level for Team Finland. Between 2010 and 2012, Nutley twice lead the Finns – in the European and World Championships – forming relationships that crossed continents and remain strong to this day. As one of his Finnish players remarked, “He is an amazing motivator and I wish I had more time under his tutelage.”

During his time at Bridgton Academy, Nutley had the opportunity to coach and mentor several future Division I collegiate athletes, as well as Steven Brooks, a two-time national champion at Syracuse University, and two-time Major League Lacrosse (MLL) champion with the Chesapeake Bayhawks.

“My passion is coaching lacrosse and passing on some life experience along the way. It has been a pleasure to have built relationships with past players that still impact my life today,” says Nutley. “I am very proud of those Bridgton Alum that have gone on to represent the program in the lacrosse and business communities in a positive way. This is why I have returned.”

Matt Nutley is a 1999 graduate of Mercyhurst University, where he received a degree in Sports Science. He was also a member of the Marine Corps, serving in the Persian Gulf and receiving three Meritorious Masts for his service. Nutley also had a nine-year career as a firefighter and rescue diver. While at Bridgton Academy, Nutley will work in the school’s College Counseling office, and will reside on campus with his family.

Bridgton Academy’s mission is to provide a program for young men in a unique, one-year postgraduate environment to prepare for the competitive rigors of college and beyond.
