Head of School House Dedicated in Honor of Alumnus

When Bridgton Academy was founded in 1808, the campus location was specifically chosen because “the natural beauty of the scenery was so great that it seemed that nature itself had designed that there should be a school in North Bridgton.”

158 years after 1808, in the fall of 1966 a young man arrived on campus who benefitted from the physical environment, in addition to connections with his teachers, coaches, and his classmates in the Class of 1967. This young man was Bridgton alumnus, Tim Armour ’67. He served as the President of the Class of 1967 and was the recipient of the Academy’s most prestigious commencement award, the Spooner Award.

Tim’s first donation in support of Bridgton Academy was in 1974, and his dedication has not wavered since.

The focus of much of Tim’s philanthropy is on campus beautification, beginning in earnest around 2011. The scope of Tim’s projects have touched nearly every campus building and all of the grounds. From the inspirational signs around campus, to lighting, painting, paving, pillars, and even the creation and installation of our Wolverine sculpture—Tim has helped to preserve the beauty of Bridgton Academy through his pride and dedication.

In addition, Tim has led a number of successful class fundraising efforts including the installation of the 1967 Class Scoreboard on our main turf field, significant upgrades to the Wolverine Den, and support for the installation of the Veteran’s Memorial.

Tim served on the Board of Trustees for over a decade and now serves as a Trustee Emeritus. In 2022, Tim was recognized with the Ray T. McDonald Distinguished Service Award.

In all of these projects Tim’s unwavering goal remains to improve the Bridgton experience for today’s current students from the minute they step onto campus.

During Homecoming Weekend, Bridgton Academy was incredibly proud to dedicate the Head of School residence on North Bridgton Road as the Armour House, a fitting tribute to an honorable Wolverine.
