Important Message from Board President Vic DiGravio

Dear Members of the Bridgton Academy Community:

Head of School Marty Mooney has informed the Board of Trustees that he will be stepping down from his position at the end of the current school year to assume the role of Head of School at Wyoming Seminary in Kingston, Pennsylvania, beginning July 1, 2023.

On behalf of the entire Board, I want to congratulate Marty and his wife Dani as they move closer to home to take on this new opportunity.  Marty has provided incredibly strong leadership and service to the Academy over the past six years. We have accomplished much during Marty’s tenure, including the complete renovation of both Cleaves Hall and Goldsmith Dining Hall, along with major renovations to Twitchell Memorial Chapel. Significant improvement to budgeting and financial practices have resulted in a financially stronger Academy, while improved admissions and enrollment processes have worked to significantly stabilize enrollment.

Perhaps Marty’s most important legacy is the exemplary leadership he provided to our community during the  COVID-19 pandemic.  Marty led with confidence and a strong vision during this period, aided by the support of Dani, whose public health expertise was critical in managing the Academy’s response to the pandemic. Following the initial lockdown phase in the spring of 2020, Marty and the faculty and staff were determined to open our doors for an in-person Bridgton experience for the Class of 2021 and beyond. Through careful planning, testing, public health protocols, and most importantly, the extraordinary efforts of Marty and the Academy’s dedicated faculty and staff, we were able to do just that.

As we move into this time of transition, I have appointed Board of Trustees Secretary, Mr. Paul Carberry, to lead the Search Committee that will work to identify the Academy’s new Head of School. The entire Board is committed to engaging the Bridgton Academy community throughout the search process and will be providing regular updates via email and on our website.

Concurrent to the search for our next Head of School, the Board will be working with Marty and the Academy’s senior leadership team to ensure a smooth transition. During this time, Bridgton Academy will continue to seamlessly provide a transformational learning experience for our students just as we have proudly done since 1808.

The future of Bridgton Academy is bright. Strong stewards of our school, including leaders like Marty Mooney, ensure that the Academy will continue to make a difference in the lives of our young men, both now and for generations to come. I’m grateful to all of these stewards, including our committed faculty and staff, who unwaveringly fulfill our unique mission, serve our remarkable students, and together provide the transformational experience that is Bridgton Academy.

Sincerely,

Vicker V. DiGravio III, President
Bridgton Academy Board of Trustees
