The Coaches vs. Cancer program has raised over $100 million for the American Cancer Society since it launched in 1993 as a collaborative effort between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Bridgton Academy has hosted this annual event””held at schools across the country””for over a decade, and it remains a highlight for members of the Wolverine basketball team and our Academy as a whole.
For this year’s Coaches vs. Cancer Winter Classic, the teams from The Woodstock Academy (Woodstock, CT), St. Thomas More School (Oakdale, CT), and Hyde School (Bath, ME) traveled to North Bridgton to compete against our Wolverines for the championship trophy. Woodstock Academy took on Hyde School in the first game Friday night and won in decisive fashion. Following that match-up, Bridgton Academy took on nationally ranked St. Thomas More in what turned out to be a nail-biter of a game. Although Bridgton maintained the lead throughout, it wasn’t until late in the second half that the Wolverines pulled away for a big victory. The following day, Bridgton competed in the championship game against Woodstock Academy. Concluding a legendary Memorial Gym thriller, Bridgton fell just short to Woodstock in double overtime after a 20-point comeback in the second half.
We congratulate all of the student-athletes for a hard-fought and memorable Coaches vs. Cancer Winter Classic!
