Chris Payne appointed to lead Bridgton’s premier soccer program.

Following a comprehensive national search, Bridgton Academy has named Chris Payne the next head coach of its soccer program.
Payne brings over 25 years of elite developmental experience to North Bridgton, having served as a head coach and recruiter across the NCAA Division I, II, and III levels, as well as within prestigious youth programs in both the United States and the United Kingdom. Most recently, Payne served as a coach and advisor at Southern Connecticut State University, following a successful tenure as an assistant coach at the College of the Holy Cross.

“We are excited to welcome Chris Payne to Bridgton Academy,” remarked Director of Athletics Aaron Izaryk. “Chris brings a wealth of experience at both the college and club levels and has great energy and vision to build on the momentum of Bridgton Soccer. I think Chris will be a tremendous mentor and advocate for our players and will be a great representative of our Academy within NEPSAC soccer circles. The future of Bridgton Academy Soccer is bright.”

Payne’s coaching resume is highlighted by his time as head coach at Assumption University, where he led the program to its first-ever Northeast-10 Conference Championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2019. His deep understanding of the recruitment landscape is bolstered by nearly a decade as a Director of Coaching for the Boston Bolts, where he managed USSF Development Academy teams and guided countless families through the college placement process.

“I’m honored to join Bridgton Academy and want to thank both Diana Gleeson and Aaron Izaryk, who have helped in making this an exciting process and given me the opportunity to contribute to a program that emphasizes both player development and preparation for the college level,” Coach Payne shared. “I look forward to helping our student-athletes grow both on and off the field.”

In addition to his coaching accolades, Payne’s personal history as a student-athlete remains a cornerstone of his leadership. A two-time NCAA Division II National Champion at Southern Connecticut State and a former youth player for West Ham United and Leyton Orient in England, Chris will bring a unique global perspective to the Bridgton community.

“It was immediately clear to me that Chris understands that the heart of a great program lies in relationship building and personal growth,” stated Academy Head of School, Diana J. Gleeson. “His ability to balance high-level professionalism with a deep commitment to student mentorship and success will make Chris a great fit for Bridgton Academy. I am excited to see the impact he will have developing our young men into mature, accountable decision-makers, both in the game and beyond.”
