This past week marked the end of the NEPSAC basketball season with powerhouse Brewster Academy winning the Class AAA championship, along with a National title. Arguably the finest prep school basketball league in the country, NEPSAC Class AAA boasts some of the country’s top recruits. Among such strong competition, two Bridgton Academy Wolverines named were honorable mention members of the NEPSAC all Class AAA team. Bobby Planutis, from Hazelton, Pennsylvania and Jack Lesure, from Bridgton, Maine, received honors for their outstanding performance for the Wolverines this season. Averaging 18 points a game with 3 assists and 7.5 rebounds, ‘Bobby Buckets’ played nearly every minute for the team and put forth his absolute best day in and day out. Planutis was often found early in the morning before class or after study hall at night, working on his game. When asked about Bobby’s honors Coach Whit Lesure stated: “I knew Bobby would be a tremendous leader for us from the day he first visited. He is a gym rat…what people don’t see, all the extra time he puts in, is more important than the recognition.” He has several offers at the NCAA Division I level and we are excited to hear about where his new home will be.

Jack Lesure averaged 7 points, 3.5 assists and 6 rebounds a game. But, what the statistics did not show was his heart and grit; Jack Lesure was the embodiment of toughness and grit this season. Jack consistently laid his body out on the line for the team, diving for loose balls, taking charges and ultimately getting under the skin of whoever he was covering. “Jack exemplified the role that defense and toughness plays in the game” Coach Whit said about his son. His tenacity and attitude seemed like he was leading the Wolverines into battle every game. Jack also has offers at the next level, but wherever he lands better be ready for his toughness.

We would like to congratulate Bobby and Jack for their hard-work and leadership this season, and we wish them and the rest of the Wolverine basketball team the best of luck.
